What does that mean...?

A ballista is a projectile weapon that usually catapulted rocks and balls.

A ram is a device at the bow of the ship with which one can ram enemies. It has its origins in antiquity. Today the bows of ships are also reinforced, not for ramming, but rather to reduce water resistance.
