Revell Leonardo da Vinci "Parabolic Swing Bridge"

The wooden swing bridge model kit is fully moveable and functional. It was designed according to original drawings and historical models at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci in Milan.

Leonardo's swing bridge was for the safety of the soldiers. He thus named his bridge "Bridge of happy coincidence" or "Salvational bridge". It was to be set up over a river and open and close over the water.

The model shows a swing bridge that was built in a parabolic shape over a river. At the left-hand side there is the end of a riverbank path. The bridge spans the river, where its free-standing, thin and light end rests on a plate on the opposite embankment if the bridge is closed. The bridge axis is positioned with two winches on both sides of the embankment.

The bridge is also equipped with a container for a counterweight. This load has the task of counterbalancing the weight and of allowing the shunting of the bridge even when it is in the air. The bridge's movement is activated by ropes and winches guided by metal wheels or pulleys. Model builders can really comprehend the swing bridge's operation with this replica model. The bridge can be swung using hand cranks and pulleys.
